Kathi Traywick

Circle of Life Sun Over the Mountains

"I believe a little bit of the spirit of the potter goes into each piece of handmade pottery. Each piece is like the potter; unique, imperfect, a little off center, earthy and tested in fire! It is my intent through my humble offerings to share these qualities and my love of God and His creation and therefore bring joy to others through my work."

Kathi has been studying pottery for about 10 years. She says that she has always been inspired by other potters and has learned a great deal through the benevolence of other potters. Most have shared generously of their passion for clay. Robert Harold has been a mentor and the three7/18/10 confidence to set out on her own. Kathi has also studied with Leon Nichols at JC Campbell Folk School, Stephen Hill at the Hambridge Center, Patty Caldwell in Kennesaw, and several instructors at Art Place Mountainview Pottery Studio. Clay Times,Ceramics Monthly and numerous books have imparted knowledge and i7/18/10style64">Kathi is intrigued by all aspects of creative expressions and ability of a face to express what is inside. She loves making her face mugs and that they bring joy to people in the morning. The idea that she is having coffee with so many nice clients morning after morning is a concept she loves. Kathi's functional work is always microwave, oven and dishwasher safe.

Kathi's work has been displayed at Sidewalk Studio, Atlanta, GA; Oz Gallery, Decatur, GA; Arts in the Park, Marietta, GA; Christmas Arts and Crafts Show, St. Catherine of Sienna Church, Gilmer Arts and Heritage Association (GAHA) Gallery, GAHA Artists Studio Tour and Ellijay Farmer's Market.

Kathi has taught children's classes for Gilmer Arts and Heritage Association, conducted programs for ETC in 2006 and 2007, and helped establish an artist's co-op in Acworth with three other artists.

Drawn by the beauty of the North Georgia Mountains, Kathi has lived in Ellijay for four years. She is a member of the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild, Gilmer Arts and Heritage Association, and Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association.
